President CDL-1974
It was in the small town of Pilões, interior of Paraíba, that José Marinho de Lucena was born on April 11, 1933. He was educated in the city of Guarabira, graduating in accounting sciences. Although his family was more involved with agribusiness – his parents had a device – José Marinho devoted himself to trade. His first job was in 1958, as a salesman at Casas José Araújo, a company in the area of fabrics and bedding, table and Bath in Campina Grande.
The entrepreneur had the greatest characteristics of entrepreneurship and optimism, considered an optimiser of the business relations of his time, because he saw the world always aiming for the best possibilities. Alongside Antônio Jatobá, he joined the nameless houses, and soon afterwards created his own company, Lucena & Cia, with the first store on Rua Peregrino de Carvalho. Thanks to his sensitivity and skills as an administrator, he grew and expanded his stores in several states such as Ceará, Maranhão and Piauí. Its growth was not only due to the effort to capture new markets, but also for the ability to conserve and care for its clients, in addition to the vision ahead of its time.
In 1974 he was invited to be part of the CDL and thus assume the presidency. In his management, lent to the entity his attentive and dedicated look, focused on entrepreneurship. The entrepreneur was also one of the responsible for buying the current headquarters of the CDL, helping to attract resources, which greatly contributed to its acquisition.
Father of 10 children and with an innovative and generous look on things, the life of José Marinho was marked by dedication to work, and by valuing the effort as a vector of growth. She left prematurely at 49 years of age, in a complication of a cerebrovascular accident.
