Although Brazilians are still sensitive to the effects of recession and unemployment, the percentage of people who should go shopping on Father's Day is higher this year than in 2016. A survey conducted by the Credit Protection Service (SPC Brazil) and the National Confederation of Shopkeepers (Cndl) reveals that 57% of Brazilians intend to buy gifts on the date, which represents an approximate contingent of 86.1 Million consumers. Those who did not express the intention to buy gifts add up to 41% of the sample and those who do not yet know are 2%. Last year, the percentage of Brazilians who presented parents was 49%, according to the research.
The study data suggest the Brazilian's caution when buying, since the largest share of the interviewees who will present (38%) intends to spend the same amount disbursed in 2016 and 26% plan to even decrease expenditures. According to the poll, only 13% of consumers plan to spend more than a year ago. "As most Brazilians should not increase their spending, it is up to retailers to understand the financial constraints of consumers in order to stimulate them to buy. The consumer is cautious to consume and it is important to offer lower cost options to present on the commemorative dates ", says the president of Cndl, Honório Pinheiro.
Among those planning to spend less, the main reasons are the tight budget (43%), the intention to save (35%) and the unstable scenario of the country's economy (31%), which ends up affecting consumer confidence in compromising income with the acquisition of Gifts. There are still 20% of people who have other financial priorities and 10% who have had wage reductions. Among those who will spend more this year, 59% think of buying a better gift, but 45% think they will disburse more because the gifts have incarred from one year to the next.

Among those who go shopping, the amount disbursed with the total of gifts will be, on average, R $125, a value that decreases to r $111 when considered only the consumers of classes C, D and E. Most (81%) buyers should acquire only one gift. With this, SPC Brazil and Cndl estimate that Father's day purchases should move approximately R $10.7 billion in the sectors of commerce and services.
The survey still shows that six out of ten (57%) consumers have the perception that the present are more expensive this year, and for 77% of these, the economic crisis has increased prices. For 37%, they are in the same price range.

With the prospect of saving at the time of purchase, 58% of consumers said they will conduct price surveys before acquiring the present. Another 10% will divide the purchases with someone else, usually a brother, the mother or some family member.
The research also reveals that, even in a moment of great uncertainty and little conducive to indebtedness, more than a quarter (25%) of the consumers who expressed the intention to buy gifts this year are with some delayed parcel and 21% are even With the dirty name. Clothing and shopping center lead in preference
On Father's Day this year, the most sought-after items for those who will present will be the clothes (40%), perfumes and cosmetics (16%) and footwear (16%). Regarding the method of payment, the majority of respondents (75%) show preference for cash payment, either in Money (66%) or debit card (9%). According to the survey, the demand for the parents ' present should intensify for the next few days: 41% of respondents said they will leave the purchase of the present for this first week of August and 34% only do so on Saturday, eve of Fathers Day.
Methodology
The research was carried out by SPC Brasil and Cndl under the ' National Retail Development Program ' in partnership with Sebrae. 872 consumers of both genders, over 18 years of age and all social classes, were listened to in person. To evaluate the purchase profile, 600 cases of the initial sample were considered, which are intended to buy gifts. The margin of error of this sample is at most 4.0 percentage points to a confidence margin of 95%.
